What causes Frown Lines?
There are many factors involved which can cause frown lines. The most common cause for the “gathering or knitting of the tissue between the eyebrows” are repeated facial expressions. Facial expressions such as an angry or sad face which will furrow the brow area will cause frown lines. Of course we can always count on genetics to play a huge factor in this which will cause loss of elasticity in the area as we age. Other factors can be sun exposure and squinting excessively.
Frown lines can sometimes cause a person to have a lower self-esteem as increased emotional stress.
There are many treatments for frown lines. The most common treatment is Botox/Dysport/Xeomin (botulin) being injected into the area. These will all help the muscle to slow or freeze movement for a period of months. Fillers such as Restylane or Belotero are choices which are injected into the area to fill the deeper lines. Fillers will last up to a year in many cases. For those who do not wish to have anything invasive there are radio frequency treatments such as Thermage or ThermiSmooth. These treatments will stimulate the natural collagen growth in the area and can last years, depending on the depth of the lines. There are options such as chemical peels and laser resurfacing as well.
All options should be discussed in detail with your Dermatologist to determine the best treatment for you.
