In July 1997, a dermatologic surgeon already with a resume that appeared to highlight the achievements of several doctors opened a private dermatology practice in Houston. The physician was Dr. Leonard Goldberg, and his skills along with his down-to-earth manner with patients seeking relief from a long list of skin disorders helped his practice to flourish.
Now with 10 service locations, DermSurgery Associates, known widely as the go-to dermatologic experts in the greater Houston region, is proud to offer services to patients in the Houston Medical Center, Bellaire, South West Memorial, Pearland, Brenham, Beaumont, Katy, Kingwood and The Woodlands.
The best staff and unmatched expertise
Celebrating its 20th year, the DermSurgery team includes 15 board-certified dermatologists, two physician assistants (PAs) and two aestheticians, who are part of a staff that totals over 90 individuals. Among the dermatologists, five are Mohs-trained Fellows.
That’s no surprise as Dr. Goldberg is known around the world as one of the preeminent Mohs surgeons in practice today. This unique surgical procedure was developed in the 1930s as a way to detect and remove skin cancer by cutting away layer by layer of cancerous skin until the surgeon reaches skin that’s cancer-free. Dr. Goldberg’s training in Mohs surgery began in 1980 in New York. He has gone on to become a sought-after instructor in the discipline and to write over 200 respected academic pieces.
Today several physicians at DermSurgery provide training for young doctors who are in residencies through Houston Methodist Hospital’s family medicine, internal medicine and plastic surgery rotations in dermatology. Students in dermatology rotations at Texas A&M University and Mohs Fellows from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston also complete rotations at DermSurgery’s offices.
Notable as the first Mohs surgeon in Houston, Dr. Goldberg continues to serve as Program Director for the Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship in partnership with Houston Methodist Hospital.
