Spring means it’s time to renovate your skin-care routine
New baby-green leaves on the trees, blooming wildflowers, warmer weather. The signs of spring are everywhere. The change in the season affects our bodies, just as it affects the natural world around us. As the environment shifts, so should your skin care routine.
Here are the top 5 springtime skin-care tips recommended by the experts here at DermSurgery Associates.
1 – Exfoliate
A long season of cold, windy winter weather can really dry out your skin. Reveal a fresh glowing complexion by sloughing off all that dead winter skin. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub to clear away dull, dead, surface skin cells. Don’t stop at your face! Soak in a warm bath to soften dead skin and then give your whole body a thorough – but gentle! – scrub.
2 – Kick your sunscreen game up a notch
Of course, we always recommend applying sunscreen no matter what time of year it is. Even on the coldest, cloudiest days, your skin is still susceptible to sun damage. But let’s face it, the minute the temperature begins to rise, all we want to do is spend time soaking up the warmth of the sun. That means more sun exposure to areas that have been covered up all winter. It’s more important than ever to apply and reapply a good sunscreen – with an SPF of at least 30 – to your face and any skin exposed to the sun.
3 – Switch to a light moisturizer
During the winter, your skin may have been so dry that it drank up even the heaviest of moisturizers. As warmer, more humid weather arrives, you’ll want to shift to a lighter formula that won’t leave your skin feeling greasy. Select one that makes your skin feel healthy and hydrated.
4 – Eat lots of fruits and veggies
Fresh fruits and veggies are packed with important vitamins and minerals that help support healthy skin. Their high water content is also hydrating. Plus, they are a delicious way to celebrate spring!
