What causes Warts?
When a human papillomavirus (HPV) infects the top layer of the skin, the result is a wart. If you cut or damage your skin in some way, you may become more susceptible to warts. These viruses are contagious and can spread by contact with the wart or something that touched the wart. Warts can grow on any part of your body and are often skin-colored and feel rough, but they can be dark, flat and smooth.
